THEO 333 Lecture Notes - Lecture 50: Epistle To The Colossians, Epistle To The Philippians, Radiance
Document Summary
Lecture 50: the resurrection and the new coming. Jesus remains with his apostles and disciples including his mother mary for forty days, and returns to heaven to the presence of the father on the mount of olives. In the old testament the prophet isaiah had revealed to the people of israel that the "son of god" would be called the "emmanuel" (7,14), which in hebrew translates "god with us". Similarly, the name "jesus" means in hebrew "god saves"; this is how the archangel saint gabriel identified him when announcing to the virgin mary his mission (luke 1,31-33). Of course, the biblical book where the most reference is made to the divine nature of jesus is condensed in the gospel of saint john; The holy scriptures indicate that jesus was not "created" but "begotten" by the eternal father (psalm 2. 7; proverbs 8. 25; acts 13. 33; hebrews 1. 5; 5. 5).
