The reasons we need gestalt rules: our senses are only giving us raw material. Perception involves figuring out which interpretation of the reality is most likely. The pandemonium model demons represent neurons, and each level is like a brain area. Committees must integrate conflicting opinions and reach a consensus. Apperceptive agnosia: deficit at the level of features. Can copy a drawing but can"t put together features to form a whole. The patient is seeing very basic features but has trouble integrating those features into stable percepts. Associative agnosia : deficit that arises at a higher level [i. e. at cognitive demons and decision demons] Put together what goes together (gestalt grouping principles). Because the same retinal image can be composed from an infinite number of combinations of those rectangles at different angles. An accidental viewpoint is a viewing position that produces some regularity in the visual system that is not present in the real world.
