Oil of wintergreen 5 ml contains 6500 mg of asa. Body maintains hydrogen concentraion in a narrow range (35-45nmol/l) Hydrogen ions constantly being produced in large amounts. Changes in hydrogen ion concentraion can be due to metabolic or respiratory problems. Higher hydrogen ion concentraion (acidosis), bicarbonate is decreased = metabolic acidosis. Pco2 is low trying to compensate by respiratory alkalosis (breathing 2. 5 imes normal breath) Lots of salicylate direct simulaion of temperature, metabolic acidosis, respiratory alkalosis, breathing hard and losing water, has low glucose (inhibiing glycolysis, gluconeogenesis)
