Dsm-5 stresses most people w/unusual sexual interest do not have disorders. Who does: those who feel personal distress about their interest, not merely distress resulting from society"s disapproval. Examples: exhibitionistic disorder, fetishistic disorder, frotteuristic disorder, paedophilic disorder, sexual masochism disorder, sexual sadism disorder, transvestic disorder, and voyeuristic disorder. Dos transvestic disorder belong alongside paedophilic disorder: have to feel distress to be diagnosed, we recognize paedophilia as a crime. Dsm attempts to tread water carefully, lots to be concerned about. Strong desire to be treated as gender different to how society treats that person, or to be rid of one"s sex characteristics, or strong conviction that one has feelings typical of a different gender. Dsm-5 stresses that gender nonconformity is not in itself a mental disorder. The critical element is the presence of clinically significant distress associated with the condition . May help people to get the treatment or access services that they need.
