Mental state characterized by profound disturbances in thought. Schizophrenia society of ontario: schizophrenia is a disease of the brain hard for ppl to distinguish between what is real and what is not : locate it in a physical organ, says theres only 1 reality. Who: schizo is a severe mental disorder : heavily contested. Divided into symptoms that are: (acute) positive and, (chronic) negative some similarity w/ bipolar disease, autism- significant misdiagnosis w/ bd in adults and autism in children. Hallucinations: false sensory experiences, usually frightening but can occasionally be comforting, most common are auditory. Delusions: beliefs held despite improbable (impossible) nature, maintained even when demonstrated to be false, but: not all suspicious beliefs are false- sometimes wife is really cheating on you, sometimes fixed beliefs are not provable (religion, god) Control: thought insertion, reading, broadcasting, being controlled by external forces.
