KINESIOL 3V03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Alcoholic Drink, Common Rule, Moral Disengagement
Document Summary
Frustration does not necessarily result in aggression, but creates a readiness for aggression. Certain stimuli must be present for aggression to occur (to release a disposition toward aggression in a frustrated individual: ex: red flag for frustrated bull. Negative affect associated with frustration: fundamental spur to the inclination for aggression. An individual"s willingness to engage in aggression is related to her stage of moral reasoning. A relationship exist between the level of moral reasoning and acts of overt athletic aggression: athletes must be taught that aggression is just as wrong during an athletic contest as it is in normal everyday life. 3 stages of moral development: pre-conventional, the individual is concerned with rewards, punishment, and one"s own welfare, conventional, the individual is concerned with group or team norms, post-conventional, the individual is guided by moral principles. The higher the stage of moral development, the less likely an athlete will engage in unethical aggressive behavior.
