Aids in removal of gastric contents & air in stomach. Ng tubes inserted through nasopharynx or oropharynx into stomach. The actual tubing is referred to as lumen: salem-sump tube. Second lumen is blue extension off proximal end. Cannot swallow safely on their own as a result of either. Dobhoff feeding tubes inserted through nasopharynx or oropharynx & through the stomach into the 1st part of the duodenum. Fluids that may cause damage to the intima or peripheral veins. Inserted into large peripheral vein (depending on use) to svc just above the right atrium. Picc line placed from antecubital insertion point. Used to measure & monitor patient"s cardiac function, specifically pressures within the heart & lungs. Has other lines within that allow for medication administration & retrieval of blood gases. A chest tube is a hollow, flexible tube placed into the chest; acts as a drain.
