MEDRADSC 2BB3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Edge Enhancement, Image Noise, Radiography
Document Summary
The signal intensity, aka brightness mapping, may be reversed to generate a negative image. Taking the high & low portions of the spectrum & flipping it (pixel that corresponds to white is changed to black) This requires a reversal signal -> brightness mapping where the high intensity signals are black & low intensity signals are white. Bit depth of 8 (2^256); 256-1 bc of 0. Taking the pixel that corresponds to black & flipping it to the opposite side of the line to turn it white. By changing the contrast, it improves patient care (able to see different pathologies) Allow you to change the images by modifying the signal intensities. Smoothing decreases the contrast; used to get rid of noise. Method of selectively enhancing or diminishing specific spatial frequency components in an image. This is useful since much of the eye"s observations of an image are based on edge interfaces or differences b/n tissues.
