Document Summary

When looking at patient care history sheet (one with the procedural pause, blood work, meds, etc) it includes pheochromocytoma - adrenal mass. In any procedure, ir rad wants to be aware of this in case of a hypertensive crisis - prepare alpha blockers. Smallest paired organs - 4g each in adults. Cortex & medulla like in kidneys - both have different functions like the kidneys. Surrounded by fatty areolar tissue with thin fibrous capsule, anchored to surrounding fascia. Hard time utilizing the tourniquet effect - hard to find 2-3cm of tissue; hard to use even though a capsule is present. Right adrenal gland: posterior to ivc & superior to upper pole of right kidney, close to the liver & gallbladder. Left adrenal gland: lateral to aorta, medial/superior to upper pole of left kidney, close to the stomach. Outer cortex (very fibrous) appears hypoechoic on us & the medulla (very vascular) appears echogenic.
