Ct: many non-randomized studies have been completed which demonstrate the ability of ct screening to effectively diagnose coronary artery disease, lung cancer, colon cancer, abdominal aortic aneurysms and osteoporosis before symptoms occur. Limitations: screening health scans are available to those adults who understand their benefits and limitations. Dose: core body ct = 10msv (compared to 2msv background dose per year, barium enema = 5-6msv, occupational exposure = 20msv/year, what implications will asir have on screening, help with dose reduction. Will ct screening cause cancer: relationship between low dose radiation and cancer is highly controversial, worst case core body scan would result in1/3 excess cancers per 10,000. Who should be screened: family history of heart disease, diabetics, high blood pressure/cholesterol, normally multiple variable s about makes a patient high risk requiring this scan. Who should be screened: smokers, those exposed to second hand smoke, chronic emphysema suffers. Individuals with a family history of lung cancer.
