Document Summary

Descriptive statistics: summarize, interpret and present data collected, present information about data at-a-glance to give the overall idea of the results of an experiment. Mean= the average value of a data set (sum of data set/number of values) Median= the centre value in a data set when it is arranged numerically (eliminate the highest and lowest repeatedly) Mode= the value that appears most frequently in the set (the most typical response and the only one that can be used for nonnumerical results as well) Outliers: extreme points, distant from others in a data set. Histogram: type of graph used to report the number of times groups of values appear in a data set. Frequency distribution: illustrates the distributions of how frequently values appear in the data set. Normal distribution: characteristic smooth, symmetrical, bell- shaped curve containing a single peak. Measure of variability: tell us how spread out the data is.
