It"s instead through our individual interactions with each other; rituals we participate in; symbols we create the meanings associated with family or relationships. They look at symbols in relation to weddings. I. e. rings, wedding gowns, setting of place of worship: examine the meanings associated with these symbols. Interactionists examine how our individual subjectivities are informed by our family roles and relationships. Example: walzer"s book (feminist theory) found new mother"s sense of self was transformed in the transition into motherhood; she found that many women spent a lot of time thinking about their baby even when separated. Most of our history we existed as hunting/gathering nomadic people. See people with their children but their not living in privatized household; living in a wider camp/tribe/group constantly on move to find food.
