Power is the core of all social relationships; scarce and unequally divided among members of society. Promote their own interests at the expense of the weak. Marx"s work was a reaction to economic/social conditions brought on by the industrial revolution. Marx focused on economic classes and forces of production. Dialectics: a way of seeing history and society as the result of oppositions. Idealism: human mind and consciousness are more important in understanding the human condition than is the material world. Human consciousness: and human interaction with the material world. Class consciousness: an awareness on the part of the working class. Dynamic relationship between material and social elements of society. Base: material and economic foundation for society (requirements) Superstructure: all of the things that society values and aspires to (wants?) Alienation: process by which workers are disconnected from what they produce. Exploitation: the difference between what workers are paid and the wealth they create for others.
