It"s not a fair game, power is differentially distributed, some powerful and some powerless. One of the tools they use is deviance, general message is they use the idea of deviance to keep others down. Those in power and government reflect the powerful groups, they want to advance the powerful groups by passing laws that go in their favor: by criminalizing the activities of the powerless. Laws against crimes of the oppressed: e. g. The repercussions are less, taking that rage and frustration some other way and directed at yourself and others. Differences: groups in conflict, marxist theories -------> social class (rich/poor) - they focus on social class, breakdown of society into different classes, critical --------------------> race, gender, sexuality, language, culture etc. Ex: about the privileged races, people of color repressed groups. Inevitability of the conflict some conflict theorists believe you will always have power unequally distributed.
