SOCPSY 1Z03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Social Learning Theory, Reinforcement, Social Exchange Theory
Document Summary
Cognitive interaction (combination of both cognitive aspect and interaction) Proper interaction needs you to have a sense of identity and how it pertains to the social situation. Signi cant others: people who are more important to us than the average person. Recognizes the important of self in social interaction. People want to gain respect and maintain self respect. Limits: - overemphasizes the rational self conscious thought. Not everyone is concerned with how they are seen. Too much emphasis on consensus and not on con ict. Does not deny the importance of external stimuli, focuses on cognitive processes. Looking at the way our brain works and perceive things, doesn"t discount what is going on around us. Actively interpret the meaning of stimuli and select the actions. Schemas help us process external stimuli in a more ef cient way. E. g. lawyer example, you look at their gender, age, behaviour, clothing and you have an assumption on who the lawyer is.
