Involved everything: genomics vs genetics, difference in scale, genetics only looks at a small part of the genome, genomics is looking at everything. Prokaryote genomes: 3 domains of life, archaea, eukaryote, bacteria, difference between pro and eu genomes, euk, have nuclei, alpha helical dna, much larger genomes, pro, generally single circular dna. Naked dna: but in reality much more complicated than this, can have multiple chromosomes, linear or circular chromosomes, and plasmids, plasmids, kinda like mini chromosome. Human genomes: to see indiv, take a dividing cell and treat with colchicine, colchicine prevents spindle formation, so chromosome just keeps growing, then put on a slide and dyed. Gene density: not even, some parts have lots of genes, some have nothing at all. Ie bananas are triploid (3 of the genomes: polychaos dubium, largest genome ever, 670 bill bp, we don"t know why.
