Document Summary

Cells and cell membranes: all living things comprise of one or more cells which have a plasma membrane, an organism with 1 cell is unicellular while one with lots of cells is multicellular. Some cells can come together and form a colony, but this doesn"t necessarily mean that their multicellular. Membrane proteins functions: carbohydrates become part of the cell membrane by attaching to a protein or a lipid. These form glycolipids and glycoproteins which face outward from the cell to protect the cell: fun fact!! 50% of the mass of the membrane is proteins. The a, b, and o alleles: o is a recessive allele resulting from the deletion of a single guanine in the nitrogenous base. O doesn"t have the a or b antigens but has the h antigen. Someone can also have the ao allele which is just a because. O is recessive, thus having the a and h antigens.
