Developing models to predict cognitive impairment ahead of time. Wrote an important book discussing the boundary zones of normal aging and ad. Main goal: develop models for predicting a subsequent cognitive impairment in normal elderly persons. Goal 1: identify transitions from na to mci as early as possible. Goal 2: predict transitions from mci to ad as early as possible. Must meet all 5 criteria plus 1 for diagnosis of mci. Since 2000, there has been an exponential increase in research on mci. It has multiple directions (can stay the same, revert back to na, transition to ad) Different types of mci that can progress into different types of dementia. Looked at mci more in depth and internationally. Quoted prevalence to be between 1-40% (huge range, not good) Despite there being lots of research, we still don"t know that much about mci.
