PSYCO403 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Prodrome, Neuropathology, Cognitive Reserve
Document Summary
There can be differences between na age groups. If you"re diagnosed with ad, they all converge** There are many things we all go through as we age. Large range of factors that affect cognitive outcome. Biological vitality, experience, lifestyle and background, cultural, social, education, etc. Sometimes we see that the trajectory is normal in the lab, but outside of the lab they are performing superiorly. Why is performance in life better than in lab. How we measure it needs to agree with how other studies measure it. Ex. older adults that start walking 30 minutes per day increase brain volume. How do people maintain cognitive function even with risk factors. Ex. drinking and smoking for 40 years without any cognitive decline. People with mci can revert back to normal aging. Can be reversible in mci, is inevitable with ad. Multiple or interacting sources and mechanisms and influences in cognitive aging. Cognitive aging (ca) is not a disease or dysfunction.
