Document Summary

Divine (non-physical) insight (belief/faith: gods have absolute knowledge, divine inspiration. Pure logic and thought (aristotle: uses logic to deduce new knowledge, need correct knowledge to make a proper deduction of new knowledge. Love, hate, liberty, free will, the mind, consciousness, unconsciousness. Why: theory: literature search and a summary/synthesis of what is already known. Cannot be an opinion, must use facts to develop hypothesis. There are usually (almost always) individual differences in the dependent measure. The mode is the score that occurs most often. The median is the score at which half the individuals score above and half score below: in a perfect curve, the mean and median are the same. Problems with the mean: at times, our measures are not normally distributed. Extremely high (or low) scores might distort the average (or mean): in this case, the median might be a better measure of central tendency, fact: on average, women have lower salaries than men.
