Document Summary

Key figure is donald o hebb (canadian) His view was materialistic (thought behaviour could be explained without resource to a mind) Consciousness is the linking of cell assembly (or the linking of memories) Researchers have argued that for assisting people with severe traumatic brain injury (tbi) a materialistic approach is more useful. Materialism does not preclude religion - science is no a belief system but rather a way of answering question about what we observe. How do the brain and behaviour relate to one another? (what is the relations between brain and behaviour?) Behaviour is observable action in a living organism. If behaviour is action then it must come from brain activity. Behaviour come from activity in the muscles or glands. Can there be muscle/gland activity without brain activity. The trouble with other relation words is that there is or can be another casue. Brain controls behaviour like the way a truck controls a trailer.
