Document Summary

Ocd used to be apart of anxiety disorders in the dsm4 but now has its own chapter in the. Body dysmorphic disorder is now separate from ocd. Identifies rational thoughts and modify them so the person is more positive. Or exposure therapy where the person experiences their fear and discusses it. In vivo exposure where they are taken to the situation. Only diagnose if it is causing harm or impairment. Obsessions: recurrent and persistent thoughts, urges, or images that are experienced as intrusive and unwanted. Compulsions: attempts to ignore or suppress the obsessions through some other thought or action. Repetitive behaviours or mental acts that the individual feels driven to perform in response to obsession. Not connected in a realistic way to the obsession or are connected but clearly excessive. Time consuming and causing stress or impairment. Need to have both for diagnoses (sometimes children can have just compulsions)
