Why should we get treatment for psychological disorders: personal and social costs. Inability to manage relationships: financial costs, billion per year in lost work, these impairments are just as severe as those associated with physical illness. Psychological beliefs prevent people from seeking treatment: belief that they can treat themselves, belief that mental health problems are not that severe, belief that they will be stigmatized by others for seeking mental health treatment. 3. there are structural barriers to seeking care: knowing where to look, not enough clinicians, cost, ohip does not cover psychologists/counsellors/social workers, private insurance often has low limits on these types of professionals. Approaches to treatments: there are two types of treatments, psychological, biological. Psychological treatment: there are many types of psychological treatment, or psychotherapy, techniques in psychotherapy are referred to as orientation.
