Chapter 9 social influence: social influence refers to the many ways people affect one another, including changes in implicit- eg throwing out broad jeans bc everyone is wearing narrow jeans. Or explicit eg: conformity- one of the most familiar types of social influence; changing ones behavior or beliefs in response to explicit or implicit pressure (real or imagined) from others. Can be attitudes, beliefs, feelings, and behavior resulting from the comments, actions, or even the mere presence of others: compliance- responding favorably to an explicit request by another person. Also mimic so that we can lay a smooth ground work feet more when foot-shaking confed present and rubbed face more when face-rubbing confed performance more likely. Eg- thinking about eating icecream makes you open fridge and get ic. When we see others behave a certain way, makes us more likely to behave that way. Exp - when interviewer mimicked (mirrored) hispanic, showed less anxiety.
