Aristotle started off as a student of plato but broke out because he didn"t see things like plato did. He started out as a biologist and was most interested in animals. Was not interested in the types of abstractions that plato was interested in. Scattered facts and what general demonstation they share: ex. There are limitiations: you will never have unlimited results, unrepresented sample. Plato was trying to find the perfect way of thinking. Start with a true general statement and find one specific example: ex. All people are mortal and socrates is a person therefore socrates is mortal. Deductive is limited and you are not discovering something new there are no perfect ways of reasoning but they are useful. Syllogism: name of deductive argument that takes that shape. All x are y so s is x. Rhetoricians use a form of syllogism to make arguments: ex. This type of argument assumes that you know everything.
