Triple entente consisted of france, britain and russia. Triple alliance consisted of italy, austria-hungary and germany. Germans believed the austrians were being bellicose with their demands; franz-josef agreed. General believed otherwise and felt that courage needed to be shown through force and war. German response was interpreted by the austrians as a blank cheque. On july 28th, 1914, austria declared war. Germans and russians saw war as an initial problem and were afraid of a war on two fronts. Czar nicolas ordered the general mobilization of the russian empire on july 30 th.
