Neuroscience: the mind is a product of brain processes. Replace dualism: there are 2 substances-matter and mind. Neutral monism: there is only one, mental physical substance. There are 2 types of matter particles and waves. Replaced by wave-particle duality: all matter has both wave and corpuscular properties. Heisenberg"s uncertainty principle: the more precise is the position of a particle, the less precise is its momentum. Cartesians and newtonians: all material processes are strictly deterministic, their future states strictly follow from their past states. Dualistic determinism: while in the material world, all events are strictly deterministic, the mind is free to act spontaneously. Strict determinism: some process made you chose one from two. In some situations, there is an infinite number of possible outcomes. (incorrect) Indeterminists only argue that some events are uncaused. Probabilistic determinism: all events have their causes, but the same initial conditions may produce different effects. (limited number of possibilities)
