Buddhist approach: abortion should be avoided; it is taking of life. A majority of people would no doubt choose saving the child, rather than 1000 valid embryos. This alone means that a child"s life is more valuable than those that who have not come to life yet. Even in buddhist teachings, killing a larger being generates more negative karma. It seems that killing something as insigni cant as a small embryo is better than bringing a child into life of su ering. The argument is of personal freedom vs the value of life. In canada, there is no criminal law restricting abortion. It is de ned by the termination of pregnancy by 20 weeks into the gestation period, out of concern for the woman"s health.
