Health teaching: prevention, stretching & warm up exercises: slow stretching, warming up muscles important, use elastic support or adhesive wrapping to support a weak/previous injured joint. Ice (first 24 - 48 hr); heat 48 hrs on, (20 min max): works well to bring down inflammation instead of medications. Elevation of extremity above heart level to control. Analgesics: need to be careful, too much can cause further complications, nsaids can cause gi irritation can cause an ulcer, younger person may tolerate more than an older person. Physiotherapy: stretching and strengthening, muscle mass gets back to where it needs to be, when there is an injury, there is weakness, assess what muscle group that is not strong enough in order to give proper care. 3: limit cell phone for texting, emailing and internet searching, alternate the fingers that you use for texting, stop and rest hands if discomfort, & gently stretch thumbs, fingers & wrists, use ice packs to reduce inflammation.
