Document Summary

3 types of muscles : skeletal- used for voluntary motion smooth - found in the walls of blood vessels, airways, ducts, bladder, uterus and digestive tract: cardiac- only found in heart. 3 functions of muscles: movement, heat production, body support and posture. A whole look at the structure of muscles. Whole muscles are made of budles of fasciculi. Each fascicle is made of groups of muscles cells or fibres. Each muscle cell contains bundles of myofibrils. Each myofibril contains think and thick myofilament. Muscle contraction is caused by the interaction of thin and thick myofilaments thin myofilament contain mostly protein called actin along the tropinin and tropomyosin thick myofilament contain the protein myosin. Structure of a skeletal muscle the whole muscle is composed of groups of fasciculi surrounded by white connective tissue called perimysium. Each fascicle is made up of bundles of myofibrils these myofibrils are composed of two types of myofilaments.
