Sports are sites for socialization experiences rather than causes specific socialization outcomes. Where do we get socialized: media, sports, schools. Shape our belief system, how we think about the world and others. Social relations + culture = meaning and importance. Since we learn as we get in contact with other people, the meaning and importance of those experiences will be given by those interactions and the cultural context in which they happen. People who choose not to play sports may have different, perhaps better, socialization opportunities in other pursuits (ex. Boys will be boys and girls will be girl. It is natural this acting and doing gender: assume the actions that come with that. The value of what it is said (they are so different) and the value of what it is ignored (look at them, they are so similar) The instances in which they do similar things by far outnumbered the things that makes them different.
