Socialization: the process by which we learn values, what is important, and what is not. Its how we learn to exist in this society: we get socialized in various places, like school, sports, family and friends. These are all sources that shape our beliefs and identities, and how we think about things we see: socialization is very dynamic, its a live process. You don"t just take the information you are told, you are constantly analyzing it to see if its right or if there is more to the story. Social relations + cultural context = meaning and importance: we learn by getting in contact with people, so the meaning we give to certain things will be shaped by those interactions that we have with those people.
