Give a test to 20 year olds, 30 year olds, 40 year olds . Compare the results of the different age groups. Continually test the same people every couple years. Compare one person"s data points year after year. The mean iq has increased from generation to generation. So a cross-sectional approach would not be accurate because of generational differences. We don"t have access to the unconscious mind. The importance of accurate and consistent observations. The degree to which the results of a study may be generalized. Not having highly controlled lab settings undermines external validity. Using a non-representative sample undermines external validity. White rats and college students are useful for research. White rats are cheap/easy to rear/live well in lab settings. College students: young, high in cognitive skill, easy to obtain, high in need for peer approval.
