When is design most and least evident to audiences: representational (going for something real) theatre, we tend to notice in less, presentational (going for something more abstract) theatre, we tend to notice it more. Period design: costumes, set, etc. match time period, lots of research goes into set and costumes. Elements of design: the designer"s tools, line, shape, color, texture, space, all of these elements exist to evoke a response from the audience make them feel something. In theatrical design, a line can be created in several ways: all lines have direction: horizontal, vertical or oblique (all over the place)
