Europe and asia had destroyed themselves for the second time. December 7, 1941: us declares war after pearl harbor. Us had less casualties, only one bomb was dropped in the country and it was in. The enemy being fought were exercising genocide on people because of their race. War provided stimulants to end the depression. Wwii migration was bigger than the great migration. Bay area was unprepared for the half million people that entered. Oakland"s population rose by 100,000 from 1941-45. Sausalito, san francisco, vallejo -- experienced similar population growths. Richmond"s population grew from 24k to 150k from 1940-43. Housing situations was desperate, individuals were living in tents. Symbol of women in the workforce during wwii. Misleading because of the women working, only 10% were in factories.
