Document Summary
Pavlov presented the rat and a loud noise at the same time, albert began to associate the animal with a startled response: generalization = when the subject responds in the same way to different, but similar stimuli. In this experiment, little albert became afraid of the family dog, a fur coat, cotton wool and other furry objects: discrimination = this is the opposite phenomena to generalization, when little. Albert wasn"t scared of something and didn"t respond to a stimulus. First written about by b. f. skinner, instrumental conditioning occurs when reinforcement or punishment is used to control how often a behavior occurs. The subject has to make some kind of response for learning to occur. A reinforcer system is used to teach behavior. Thorndike = one of the first to observe reinforcement through his experiments with cats. Eventually the rat learned that every time it got hungry all it had to do was press the lever and food was dispensed.
