A manuscript written around 1,700 bce but found in 19th century perplexed the medical world. Edwin smith papyrus papyrus from ancient egypt that contains short descriptions of symptoms and treatment of different forms of brain injury. Named after person who bought papyrus in egypt and had it analyzed. It shows that practicing physicians rapidly made link between injuries to brain and behavioral consequences. Nevertheless, in ancient egypt, scholars were convinced that heart was the seat of soul mummification preserved heart and not brain. In both ancient egyptian and greek societies at large, link between heart and intelligence was stronger. According to him, soul was divided into three parts, from highest part to lowest part. Part one and two were separated by neck. Responsible for reasoning, immortal, separated from body and controls body situated in brain. Deals with sensation, mortal situated in heart.
