22 views1 pages

Document Summary

Prp 12: bravery and strength are very often defined and made visible by acts of violence. According to gandhi, satyagraha is pure soul-force which is an essential part in acts of nonviolence. He states that a satyagrahi obeys the laws of society intelligently and of his own free will because he considers it his sacred duty to do so. Although bravery and strength are often defined and associated with acts of violence, gandhi claims that immense strength and bravery is required for those who take part in satyagraha and nonviolent acts. Gandhi describes the bravery of violence as limited as we are still limited within our body and that of non-violence as limitless in that the nonviolent one gives up the fear of losing themselves. Non-violence requires a level of strength and bravery which entails cultivating the capacity for sacrifice of the highest type of order to be able to free oneself from fear.
