A style of policing that accept the community has a legitimate, active role to play in the policing processes. Promotes community based solving initiatives, where police work with community members to solve problems in the community, not just crime. Example: project eyewatch - 21st century neighbourhood watch via facebook. Key activities: provide a forum for crime and anti-social behaviour issues, provide crime info for look outs, facilitate guest speakers in the forum. Benefits: allows for a consensus of a problem to be made > develops a high value network, gives community greater access to information real time, creates ability to provide feedback, increases sense of community. Values identifying the key causes of the problem, to develop new responses and strategies to dealing with crime or preventing it. Identifies hotspots of crime through mapping, identify who are more vulnerable to certain types of crime, identify what is more likely to be stolen. Aims to achieve crime reduction by disrupting offender activity.
