Document Summary

Each are created by the legislature to be identical to county court but does not have to follow constitutional restriction. Created due to the one per county restriction on county court. Exactly what kind of cases they can hear depends on when they were created. Each county court at law is created by separate law. At least has same authority as the county court. Can have additional areas that county court does not have. May also have higher dollar amount, upper limit in civil cases. Third tier of courts (only appellate court), first tier of true appellate courts, 14 courts of appeal all supposed to be equal by pop across the state. Mostly in major metropolitan areas of the state. Brazos county is across multiple court of appeals districts. You cannot pick which one you go to. Number varies from 3 to 13 depending on the court of appeals. Obviously multiple judges with one being the chief justice.
