Document Summary

Book questions p. 873 #1-5: the secondary oocyte begins the second meiotic division, but the process stops in metaphase. Again this is an unequal division with all of the cytoplasm going to the ovum, which has 23 single-stranded chromosome. The smaller cell fromc this division is a second polar body. The first polar body also usually divides in meiosis i to produce two even smaller polar bodies. It is a hollow, muscular organ with thick walls, and it has a glandular lining called the endometrium. the narrower, lower end is called the cervix; this projects into the vagina. The vagina is located in the pelvic body cavity posterior to the urinary bladder and anterior to the rectum. Together, these two hormones are jointly referred to as estrogens, even though only one of them actually shares the same name: the primary function of estrogens is development of female secondary sexual characteristics. These includes breasts, endometrium, regulation of the menstrual cycle etc.
