PSY-8 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Physical Attractiveness, Socioeconomics
Document Summary
They like to do the same things, they have the same values, and similarity in attitudes is a good indicator of relationship success: positivity effects, we tend to prefer people who are just positive! Men historically are less sure of their paternity- they couldn"t be absolutely sure that any one offspring would be theirs. Historically, this paternity uncertainty is different for men as it is for women. Women for sure are absolutely sure their genes are in any one offspring. As a result, women tend to be more invested in their offspring than men might be because of this paternal uncertainty. Also, in terms of differential investment, men can have children throughout their lifespan, and women have a limited reproductive window. Also, women can only have one birthing experience every year or so, and they go through dramatic physical changes.
