Document Summary
Moral development- understanding of right, wrong and in-between. Rests on kids cognitive development (we have to be able to take someone else"s perspective to think of something in a moral way) Initially, child"s moral behavior results from external forces (doesn"t hit other kid because they don"t want to get in trouble) Internalization of morals (think of yourself as a moral person); fewer people than we hope reach this stage. Kohlberg"s theory of moral development- ability to reason morally rests on ability to think a certain way. 3 stages of moral development (age doesn"t really matter) When child has very external reasons for behaving morally (heinz shouldn"t steal the drug because he will be arrested) (student decides to share because he knows he will get prize) Following someone else"s rule (not doing something because you believe it is a sin) Good boy morality (behaving morally because you want other people to think your a good person)
