Document Summary

Neurotransmitters are molecules that transmits molecules between neurons. In early 1900"s thought that brain cells communicate electrically. Frog heart suspended on apparatus and stimulated heart rate. Stimulated top one and bottom one made the same change. Substance released into the bugger that he used to rinse heart with and that substance is what actually changed the heart rate of the heart. Henry dale also known for: came up with synapse- where 2 neurons meet, dale"s principle- one neuron- one neurotransmitter. Neurons are named by the neurotransmitter that they produce!!!!! Gaba***** ***= major two in the brain. Glutamate***** = major two in the brain. Fast synthesis is very rapid. (ionotropic) almost not required. Synthesis and ion channels are what makes it fast. The ones that carry metabolism are slow: monoamines. Do require eating proper things in diet to get it into the brain. All metabatropic / require metabolic activity: neuropeptides. Made in cell body and then transported to be released.
