ARH 151 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Color Field, Lightdark
Document Summary
Light defines objects and enables us to see things. The illusion of light is created by creating variation in tone and color values. How light/dark a color or hue is. Gray tone = pure white to absolute black. Any hue or tone ranges from dark to light: values are created by lightening the hue, for example, adding white to it to lighten and black to darken. Many tones between black and white = low contrast. High contrast = very few tones between black and white. Different ways artists create lines and textures also affects how we see value. A lot of representational art tries to portray the world realistically: this is done by mimicking 3d space and rendering things as they"re seen. One of the seven elements of art. Some is absorbed, some is reflected: depends on what it is made of, reflected light = color.
