Document Summary
Each self portrait is portraying similar things, the one main idea that differentiates them is how the artists used line in their work. Line is one of seven elements of art (line, shape, color, texture, form, value, and space: the building blocks of art, a great place to start when analyzing/interpreting works of art. Line is the path created when an object moves from one point to another. In visual art, lines are made from drawing or painting marks on paper or canvas or when materials (wood, glass, metal, etc. ) are bent or shaped. Lines are also made in photography and filmmaking: camera angles and composing shots. They can be thick or thin, light or dark. Can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, straight, curved, or freeform. Can be described many ways, including dashed, dotted, rough, smooth, etc. Every artist has a unique way of making lines: expression of style.
