This chapter introduces the hispanic street gang dynamic and how they formed, which acted as the platform for many future gangs to come. This week focused on gangs in the west coast and why certain people resort to joining a gang. In essence, gangs form from a group of people who feel socially ostracized, thus turning toward violence. Hispanic gangs such as ms-13 and the 18th street gang came to be. The way certain gangs behave says a lot about them- from their leadership roles to certain crimes they commit. This week focused on the importance of drugs in gang culture and how subsets of gangs formed, such as tagger crews and party gangs, along with the incorporation of co-ed gangs. Gangs behave based on their beliefs and culture, so every gang is different despite having similar actions.
