Document Summary
Vitamins (last one that will be on the midterm) They do not generate energy - there are no calories and we cannot generate atp from them. They are essential - meaning that the only way to obtain them is through food consumption - natural sources (the body does not make them) The body produces vitamin d, vitamin k in small quantities but are still essentials. An excess amount of vitamins does nothing since vitamins cannot be stored in the body. The only reason vitamin supplements would be needed is if you have a deficiency. There are 13 vitamins classified into 2 types. Water insoluble = fat soluble (the opposite is also true) Vitamins a, d, e, k are water insoluble/fat soluble. Extra vitamins not stored are released through urine or feces. Most individuals have a diverse diet and as a result, will get vitamins through their food.
