Job satisfaction = how well a job provides fulfillment of a need or want, or how well it serves as a source or means of enjoyment. Degree to which individual feel positively or negatively about their job(s) Ex. from the incredibles (mr. incredible/bob didn"t like his office job. Importance of job satisfaction can be viewed in two contexts: To join and remain a member of organization. To work hard in pursuits of high-level task performance. Absenteeism (missing work all the time for no good reason) Work pertains to feelings of competence, autonomy, and stimulation of personal growth. Work that is a calling (thought not necessary) Accompany the job but aren"t central to its performance. Salary, conditions of work, employments policies and racial climate. Events at work produce affective reactions which influence attitudes toward work and performance. Autonomy, participation in organization, supervisory support, and concern by supervisors for employee welfare. Personality traits also play a role (e. g. agreeableness, conscientiousness)
