England gets new administration since they were losing the war. The new administration was led by william pitt (administration comes to power in 1757) Goal: to win the war in america. Very expensive strategy (uniforms, food, sail, etc) Get lots of troops by convincing colonists to volunteer. Further increases the expense of this military strategy. During the 1758 campaign season the british are able to field 45k troops. Other half colonial volunteers (offer to pay for their service) Wanted to overwhelm the french through military intimidation. The french are not going to put much emphasis on sending troops in north america. In 1758 the british evict the french from the ohio country and take ft duquesne. The french blew up the fort and abandoned it because they knew they couldn"t win. The british wanted to occupy the space through building their own fort on the same spot and named it after william pitt-- ft. pitt (now present day pittsburg)
